If you’ve lived in Virginia for long enough, chances are you’ve heard of High Bridge Trail, the iconic rail-trail that crosses the Appomattox River at 125-feet high. Yet you may not have realized that the trail just so happens to pass right by a local brewery. If you’re a fan of Virginia’s craft brew scene, it’s hard to imagine a better day trip than a hike — or bike ride — along the trail followed by an ice-cold brew. Here’s more on High Bridge Trail and the nearby Third Street Brewing near Farmville, Virginia.

If you’ve never visited High Bridge Trail before, you’ll be completely enchanted by the history (and height!) of this iconic Virginia landmark.

The bridge dates back to 1854, when it was built by the Southside Railroad over the Appomattox River as a means of connecting Lynchburg and Petersburg.

In 2005, the railroad track was converted into a multi-use trail for hikers, bikers, and horseback riders. It’s flat, level terrain lends itself to all ages and offers a beautiful perspective of Farmville and the surrounding communities. In fact, the trail measures 32.4 miles!

Along the way, visitors can look forward to passing some incredible local businesses, one of which just so happens to be a craft brewery.
