South Carolina is notoriously popular for our fine dining restaurants, complete with linens and a wait staff to cater to your every need. But sometimes that scene can be a little over-the-top. The very next time you feel that way, head to the tiny town of Yemassee, where you’ll find a come-as-you-are eatery that’s never met a stranger.

TripAdvisor/BeanMiller Harold Peeples purchased it in the late 1970s after it had been converted to a gas station and auto parts store. At that point, he began hosting Thursday night covered dinners, which quickly transitioned into Harold doing all the cooking. Soon, he was cooking on more nights than just Thursdays and started charging a small fee to cover expenses.
Wildly popular, Harold’s is decorated in an unforgettable fashion - with keepsakes from the past lives of the property.
