You don’t have to look too far to find a great bar, tavern, or bar and grill in Nebraska. But have you ever visited this one-of-a-kind tavern in Columbus? It’s thought to be the oldest of its kind west of the Mississippi River, and it’s still just as popular as ever.

Glur’s Tavern was built in 1876. Today it’s the oldest tavern in Nebraska and considered the oldest continuously-run tavern west of the Mississippi River.

Legend has it that Buffalo Bill Cody once stopped by Glur’s with a gaggle of friends after attending a friend’s funeral in Columbus. The iconic showman paid the group’s tab (and bought everyone in the bar a drink) with a $1,000 bill.

Inside is a blend of old and new. The tavern recognizes its interesting history with displays of Wild West objects and signs declaring its status as a National Historic Landmark. But the kitchen and bar are all fully stocked with modern equipment.
