Most years, flu season hits in the winter and intensifies throughout the season before peaking in February. However, here in the Bay State, flu season is hitting unusually early, and doctors warn that this year could be bad for the flu. Although we can only predict about flu season, dozens of reports of influenza have already hit Massachusetts. Doctors are reporting that a bad flu season is upon us in Massachusetts.

Usually, flu season doesn’t peak until February, although it can start as early as October. Unfortunately, over 20 cases of influenza have already been reported in Massachusetts this year.

According to the CDC, the flu is on the rise in several different states. Two strains of Influenza B have been reported at unusually high rates for this time of year.

However, the CDC also mentions that it is not too late to get vaccinated. An annual flu vaccination is recommended for everyone over the age of 6.

Some of the main symptoms of the flu are a sore throat, body aches, and potentially a fever or fatigue. If you have any of these symptoms, it’s important to get seen by a doctor to prevent further complications.

Keep in mind that the flu vaccine changes every year, so you must get a shot annually to be protected. If you still haven’t gotten vaccinated this season, it’s still recommended to get the flu shot. Later is better than never!
