Wyoming is a wild frontier, and when folks moved out west, they had to bring some of their old home with them. One way that pioneers found comfort in the fact that they were miles from their previous lives was to recreate the congregations of their hometowns. Wyoming’s oldest church dates back to the 1860s, and it’s worth a visit to step back in time.
The oldest church congregation in Wyoming got its start in 1867, in a small white church in Cheyenne. Wyomginites and pioneers gathered here to worship in their new home.

As the congregation grew, the need for a larger building became obvious. Construction on the current building began in 1890, and service was held in the little white church until it was completed in 1894.

Today, this gorgeous church takes pride in its history, preserving the original construction and history as best as they can.

Though there have been a few expansions and renovations, none have changed the overall style of the church. For example, 27 artisan stained glass windows were added in 1900, and they’re still intact today.
