What if you could discover the fountain of youth? While many think of this as just fairy tale fiction, some believe certain waters carry healing properties greater than your average glass of H20. While you might not be ‘forever young,’ this one bubbling spring in North Carolina promises you’ll at least be ‘forever healthy.’ Are you ready to jump into the fountain of youth in North Carolina?
That’s right! The fountain of youth is really right here in North Carolina.
Patricia W / Trip Advisor At The Cabins at Healing Springs, all you have to do is pump your own elixir to benefit from the magic of this mysterious spring. Here, ‘the fountain of youth’ is more than just a saying. For years, people have traveled to the small North Carolina town of Crumpler for water deemed the ‘best tonic’ by folklore and said to have healing powers.
The spring was first discovered in 1884 and its healing powers have persisted through a century.
Find a Spring From poison ivy and indigestion to more serious issues, it seemed there was something special about this fresh mountain water pulsing from the ground. Between 1889 and 1899, the water from here was shipped across the U.S. by Capt. V. Thompson. Locals knew of its magic and carried it in large bins; visitors soon arrived and eventually a resort was established. As the years went on (and even a fire on-site dodged), it became known as The Cabins at Healing Springs.
Staying at these North Carolina cabins will make you feel refreshed and renewed.
Trip Advisor / Terry H If you decide to stay overnight, you won’t even have to worry about pumping your own magic water. In each cabin, pitchers are placed on the bedside table filled to the brim. The website says of the water, “The natural spring known as ‘Healing Spring’ is purported to have healing abilities and rumored to have cured everything from poison ivy to rheumatism, indigestion to ulcers. Between 1889 and 1899, the distribution of the water from Healing Springs played an interesting part of Ashe County’s history and development. Local tradition has held steadfast for over 100 years that the waters have curative powers.”
It’s one of the best places to relax in North Carolina.
Trip Advisor Maybe it’s not just the water here the does the healing, but also the gorgeous mountain surroundings. Sure, you have the benefit of a magic elixir right at your disposal, but you also have the elixir of nature trails, rustic scenery, cozy cabins, and a simple exit from the day-to-day of reality. Located nearby the charming mountain town of West Jefferson, you can relax and rejuvenate here, have an adventure and hike all within the same day.
Even if you’re a bit skeptical when it comes to this sort of thing, these North Carolina cabins make for a great day trip or weekend escape — with some magic tonic included!
