It’s no secret Alabama is a hiker’s dream! Plenty of trails are located throughout the state that attract hikers from all over the world. One trail in particular is nestled within the Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge. For information about this wildlife refuge and trail, take a look below.
The Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge, which is located near Montevallo and covers nearly 4,000 acres, is one of Alabama’s most beautiful outdoor spots. It’s also home to the world’s largest stand of Cahaba lilies.

A popular trail is nestled inside this refuge area. It’s referred to as Falling Rock Falls Hike, and it begins at the edge of a gravel road.

After walking down this gravel road a bit, you’ll take a left at the fork in the road. You’ll then proceed and take a right at the next gravel road. From there you’ll continue until you see a dirt road, which you’ll take.

By following this dirt road, you’ll eventually reach the top of Falling Rock Falls. Upon arrival, you’ll want to be extra careful because the rocks are usually really slippery. Not to mention, you’ll be near the waterfall’s edge.

Once reaching the top of the 90-foot waterfall, you can hike down to get a better view of it. There’s also a cavern behind it that you’ll most certainly want to check out.
