We can think of many reasons to visit beautiful Sylva, North Carolina. In addition to amazing views of the Smoky Mountains, Sylvia is a fun place to explore. This hidden gem in the Tar Heel State seems to have it all – including a pizzeria on Main Street that turns into a movie house on certain days/nights. Here, visitors can dine on delicious pizza, sip craft beer from a local brewer, and watch a first-rate movie.
If you’ve yet to discover Sylva’s picturesque Main Street then prepare to be wowed. High atop a hill at the very end of Main is the old Jackson County Courthouse. Built in 1913, it’s one of the most majestic in the state.

And right up the road from the old courthouse is the Mad Batter Kitchen.

Known for years as the spot to have a meal and watch a movie, Mad Batter features delicious pizzas smothered on cheese and any topping combinations you can dream up.

On certain (random) days of the week, Mad Batter shows top-rated movies while visitors order and then eat a meal. On movie days, there are several showings per day. The family-oriented event is a favorite among locals.

And the menu at Mad Batter features more than just pizza. Choose from wraps and burgers to patty melts and curry. Not quite hungry enough for an entire entree? Choose from the salads or small bites selections. There’s something for everyone.

Recently, Mad Batter teamed up with Lazy Hiker Brewery’s Sylva Taproom. On nights when flicks aren’t being featured, visitors can enjoy a variety of other entertainment including live music.

The new affiliation with the brewery also brought a renovation to the old-style booths seen in the above photos. Mad Batter recently revealed a more sleek interior design which actually allows more people per table to face the movie screen.
