At 2.7 miles, this trail isn’t very long, but it’s jam-packed with views. Nestled beneath the Organ Mountains, you’ll be feeling like you’re in another world.

Much of the trail is a steady incline, and the gravel is loose, so make sure to bring good hiking shoes and bring water. Upon this hike you’ll pass many ancient ruins and pieces of history.

The first interesting piece of history you’ll find is the Van Patten Mountain Camp, which was built in the 1800s to service the old hotel that we’ll find later down the trail.

Keeping along the trail, you’ll come across the Dripping Springs. These springs are all natural and if there’s heavy rainfall, it’s much more of a waterfall than a trickle. Even if the water isn’t rushing heavily, these springs are impressive as they were built in 1892 to supply the nearby resort. The pond has dried up now, but this area used to be completely self sufficient.

Along the rest of the hike you’ll pass other sites like the Dripping Springs Resort and Boyd Sanatorium. It’s amazing to see so many cool pieces of history within one little hike.

The hike back down is much easier than the hike up, so take a nice stroll and maybe even snap a few pictures of the incredible surroundings.
