In a world of chain restaurants and drive-throughs, a good, homemade meal can be hard to find. Cliffside Diner offers delicious American staples, served with a side of nostalgia, just a short walk from the Capitol building in Frankfort, Kentucky.

The aptly named restaurant is nestled against a cliff overlooking the Kentucky River, in the same spot where it first served customers as Jim Miller’s Diner in 1948.

When you walk in, you will realize that not much has changed since then. The narrow space’s checkerboard floors, red stools and a handful of booths perfectly match the image of the classic American diner of the ’50s.

Although the prices are not exactly the same as they were back then, there are still plenty of delicious and affordable options on the menu.

Like any good diner, the menu is made up of tasty, traditional breakfast and lunch items, like biscuits, eggs, sandwiches, country fried steak, meatloaf, and Coney dogs.

The tiny eatery is probably most famous, however, for its burgers. The signature Cliffside Burger is topped with two patties, grilled onions, cheese, bacon, and tartar sauce on Texas toast.

Of course, this is also the perfect place to chow down on Bluegrass State specials like a Hot Brown or pimento cheese sandwich.

A slice of pie topped with a mountain of meringue or a slice of homemade cake may just be the perfect way to end your meal.

But keep in mind that the diner is quite well known for its milkshakes and malts, as well. With so many delicious options, you really can’t go wrong.
