If you’re looking for the quintessential Western North Carolina flea market experience, then head six miles southwest of Murphy to a roadside attraction that’s booming with activity on Saturdays and Sundays. Decker’s Flea Market is both charming and just far enough off the beaten path to be its own destination. Check it out:

Decker’s is not only brimming with merchandise every weekend, it’s also not a typical flea market. This is the good stuff; the kind of things you never know you need until you seem them.

Decker’s Flea Market opened in 1977 and, in every endearing worn corner or the property, it shows. The old, red barn look gives it a street appeal that has the power to make anyone do a u-turn just to go check out what’s hiding in this roadside attraction.

If you have truck, you just may want to think ahead on this day trip and bring it. Make sure it has plenty of open space, you know, in case you find some gargantuan item you can’t live without. There are oodles and oodles of buildings to check out and booths (both indoor and out) to peruse, so plan to spend a few hours at the very least.

And wear cozy, comfortable walking shoes! There is a lot of territory to cover in the many buildings and sheds at Decker’s.

Come prepared to check out some local artisan creations, too. Visitors love the huge variety of goods found here. You won’t leave empty-handed, that’s for sure.

When you get hungry, there are many food options. From vendors who are selling baked goods and more, to a few food stands carved into the hardscape, you’re sure to find something to snack on, including bagged goodies you can take home and hard boiled peanuts perfect for a mid-shopping snack.
