Before it held a cemetery, the land in McKeesport, at least according to local legend, housed an orphanage.

Tragically, one night in the 19th century, the orphanage burned to the ground, trapping and killing all of those who lived inside.

The orphanage was never rebuilt, and Coulterville Cemetery took its place, offering a final resting place for locals.
