The Mississippi coastline was once covered with lighthouses. However, after years of hurricanes and major advancements in ocean navigation many of Mississippi’s lighthouses no longer exist. Luckily, the Round Island Lighthouse has been preserved and is now safely situated in mainland Pascagoula. Take your family on a weekend trip to climb to the top of this idyllic gulf lighthouse.

Now located in Lighthouse Park, this 160 year old lighthouse has received a full renovation and re-opened to the public in 2015.

Read all about the lighthouse’s history from signage around the park. Over the years it has been repaired and re-built many times, but it wasn’t until 2010 that the remains of the structure were salvaged and brought to its current home.

For a small donation, visitors can tour the inside of the light house on Friday and Saturdays. A staff member can also tell you a little more about the past of this historic landmark.

Climb the 52 wooden, spiral stairs to the top for an awesome view. Be sure to take note of the impressive brickwork that went into reconstructing this old lighthouse.

Round Island Lighthouse is only open for tours on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 AM until 5 PM. Admission for the self-guided tour is $2 for adults and $1 for children.
