Ready to go on an adventure? Well then head on over to Belle Chasse, where history buffs and nature lovers will have a blast exploring the trails at the Woodlands Conservancy. Not only will you be surrounded by some of the most beautiful natural scenery in Louisiana, but you’ll have the opportunity to see some relics from the past. At the end of one of the trails, you’ll come across a grouping of abandoned ammunition magazines from WWII, a reminder of when the area was used by the United States Navy. Sounds interesting? Hop in the car, it’s only a short drive away!

Located in Belle Chasse, the Woodlands Conservancy features over 10 miles of natural trails for hiking, birdwatching, and photography.

There are three trails that will take you through the preserve’s 630-acre natural habitat.

The Upland trail is a mile-long loop trail that follows a ridge near a canal with beautiful views.

The Bottomland Trail is a set of parallel trails, one for hiking and one for equestrians. The trails are roughly six miles long and will take you on a secluded little path filled with some truly stunning scenery.

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for wildlife during your hike. The area is home to countless wildlife and is a stop for many migratory birds.

As you near the end of the trail, you’ll come across some relics from the past.
