Here in Ohio, fall is arguably the most beautiful time of the year. This season, make a point to take in the vibrant colors and enjoy the underrated scenery of the Buckeye State. (If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, considering taking a canopy tour of Ohio’s forests.) One of of Ohio’s most stunning scenic drives is the Appalachian Byway, a 105-mile drive that takes you through some of the best scenery our state has to offer. Grab your camera, hop in the car and take some time to admire the beauty of autumn with your friends and family this month.
No matter what time of year it is, the Appalachian Byway is a beautiful drive to take. There’s truly no place like southern Ohio.

As you travel along State Route 78, you’ll fall in love with the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. You’ll make your way through the colorful Monroe County (pictured) and into Noble County.

Along the way, you’ll spot several unique barns and abandoned structures that are hauntingly beautiful. It’s what gives southern Ohio its rustic charm.

Once you’ve made your way through Morgan County, you’ll end your journey at the charming small town of Nelsonville, nestled in the tip of Athens County.

If you’re interested in lengthening your trip some, you can take a short trip north along State Route 83 (pictured) in Morgan Country from State Route 78. This will lead you to The Wilds in Muskingum County .

The Wilds in Cumberland, Ohio features miles and miles of open pastures where exotic animals and rare species roam free. From rhinos to giraffes, this unexpected safari in the rolling hills of rural Ohio has plenty to see.
