This is one of the best times of year to be in Maine. The sun is setting earlier, forcing us inside to spend some quiet time either alone or with loved one. The weather is just a bit chillier in the morning and slowly the temperatures will get crisper throughout the day. This is the best time for getting outside and enjoying some of Maine’s many apple orchards and farms. This one, located in Livermore, is one of our favorites. And, it offers so much more than just apples. Wine, anyone?

Boothby’s Orchard has been a go-to spot for family days out for apple picking and general enjoyment for 150 years. But, lately things have started to being even more fun around here!

They offer pick-your-own opportunities throughout the apple season. Just hop on their antique wagon for a ride to the trees! The route goes past a beautiful pond and leads to an idyllic orchard.

Boothby’s offers a a seven-acre pick-your-own orchard with more than 3,000 trees that are taken care of year-round.

And if doing the work yourself isn’t for you, check out their farm stand where you can get apples, pumpkinds, mums and other fresh produce to take home with you.

They often have live music, making a visit to this orchard about more than just the fruit.

Things here feel quintessentially “fall in Maine” which is why Boothby’s is always a stop on our autumn weekend fun route.

Things have changed here over the years and one of the largest was in 2001 when the farm sold the last of their dairy herd. This left their barn empty…for new possibilities.

They removed the 1,200 gallon, stainless steel milk tank and replaced it with oak barrels and other equipment meant for making some of Maine’s most beloved wine!
