The second annual Mount Holly Lantern Parade is slated for October 26, 2019 (that’s this Saturday) in Mount Holly, a suburban city outside Charlotte, and it promises to light up the night once again with magical and even mystical lighted lanterns as they march through town under the stewardship of local residents and visitors alike.

This new tradition began last year when Awaken Gallery and the Mount Holly Community Development Foundation came together to create one of the most magical nights of the season.

Front and center at this after-dark occasion are the fragile, lightweight, lanterns that will adorn the dark sky this Saturday night. They come in all shapes and sizes from large to small and include ordinary objects and shapes to enormous mystical and mythical creatures.

And once the lantern lights are turned on… they transform the streets into a scene you won’t soon forget.

It’s easy to see why Mount Holly residents consider this a premier event of the season after only one year. It’s quickly becoming a new tradition for locals — and visitors, who travel from far, far away to participate.

Arrive early enough to downtown Mount Holly to drop your seat along the route, which measures a little more than half a mile.

The fun begins at 7:00 p.m. as parade participants turn on the lights and launch from the Ida Ranken Elementary on South Hawthorne Street. They’ll then make a left turn onto E Catawba, and finally a right turn onto S Main Street.

The event winds up at the Farmers Market on South Main Street, where the fun continues with a variety of activities, including seeing the lanterns up close and listening to live music.
