There’s a ton of history here in New Hampshire. From old historic sites to beautiful stately homes, it’s easy to look around and remember what came before we were here. While we love the covered bridges with historic markers, what feels great to us are the family-run business here in New Hampshire. Many are thriving across the state and we visit whenever possible to make sure it stays that way!

If you know New Hampshire, you surely know that its small towns are some of the best. Full of history, these are the places that often provide the best glimpse into how things were way before we were here.

Porfido’s market in Littleton is a great example!

It was started by Emilio Porfido as a small fruit and vegetable business on Main Street back in 1919! And, in 1930 he purchased the lot for an open-air market on which the current store sits today.

From the outside it might look like any other market. It’s got specials signs and a bright red awning. But, we assure you that the claim that it’s the “best deli north of Boston” is true!

In the fall the market is virtually surrounded by pumpkins and many locals come here instead of a pumpkin patch to get theirs. It’s a true testaments to what an important element of the community Porfido’s is.

Inside you’ll find just about anything you’ll need. From prepared foods to the best meats (they have an absolutely epic meat counter!) to desserts and pizza.
